If you're noticing your hair thinning, you're not alone. Male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is the most common form of hair loss in the UK: it can start as early as the early 20s, affects roughly 30% of men by 30, and around 50% by 50. If it's affecting your confidence, it matters — and there are clinically proven things you can do about it.
What we offer
Our hair loss service starts with a private consultation with one of our pharmacists. We'll talk through what you've noticed, your medical history, and any other medications you're on, before discussing whether you're suitable for treatment and what the realistic outcomes are.
The most established licensed treatment for male pattern baldness in the UK is finasteride (also known as Propecia) — a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that slows further hair loss and, in many men, regrows some of what's been lost. We can also discuss topical minoxidil.
Other causes of hair loss
Hair loss isn't always androgenetic alopecia. Other causes — autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata, post-chemotherapy hair loss, telogen effluvium following stress or illness — generally need a different approach, and our pharmacist may refer you on to your GP if that's what makes sense.
Why see a pharmacist for hair loss?
Hair loss treatments like finasteride are prescription-only in the UK, and they're not without potential side effects. Talking it through with a qualified pharmacist in a private consultation room is the right starting point — far better than ordering treatment online without a proper assessment.
